What is TEXATA?
TEXATA is a fun, innovative and challenging annual competition for students and professionals to develop and test their Big Data Analytics and Data Science skills against friends, colleagues and top professionals around the world. Competitors undertake two Online Qualification Rounds before the World’s Top 12 progress to a Live Finals Event held in Austin, Texas.
Am I eligible to participate in TEXATA?
One of TEXATA’s key values is that the competition should be accessible to “ANYONE, ANYWHERE”, especially given its focus on education and professional development. There are no limits to participating in TEXATA – any professional or student can compete.
Do I compete as individual or as a team?
TEXATA 2017 is an individual competition. By participating in TEXATA, you agree that all work submitted is your work alone.
How does TEXATA work?
Rounds 1 and 2 of TEXATA will both be four-hour online contests held simultaneously around the world. Competitors will work through a number of case studies, each consisting of a variety of multiple choice questions. All you need is a computer, internet connection and some big data skills to compete. Final information on the login and set-up infrastructure will be made available in the weeks leading up to Round 1 of the Championships. The top competitors will move through to Round 2 – similarly structured to Round 1, but with more challenging questions.
TEXATA’s Big Data Analytics World Championships event is technology-agnostic and independent. Every participant is free to use any technology vendors, products or additive analytical products.
What will be tested?
Case studies will relate to a wide cross-section of topics, including practical case studies, technical skills and creative business insights across Big Data and Business Analytics (e.g. 3 Vs, Statistical Analysis). The World Championship are focused on big data impacts for real-life enterprise decision-making. Participants will address data sets across three core sectors: Financial Services (e.g. Insurance, Banking Transactions, ROI Investment) and Mobile Data and Social Data.
Do I need to study for TEXATA?
It’s important to note that you don’t need to study for TEXATA as such. Many competitors already work with data every day! We encourage you to brush up a little on the areas where you think there are some gaps. Otherwise, think of TEXATA more like an aptitude test, which challenges you based on your existing knowledge and skills. Participants do require some familiarity with the basic data analytical techniques involved with managing the large and complex volumes of data with heterogeneity, diversity and developing meaningful analytical insights (e.g. 3 Vs).
The Resources Center has a directory of useful vendors, professional services and educational training materials to help you prepare.
