Austin, TX, November 23, 2014 – 24-year-old Frenchman Stéphane Sbizzera has successfully claimed the inaugural Big Data Analytics World Championship, TEXATA 2014, with a commanding performance at CISCO Offices in Austin, Texas. Stéphane works for leading professional services firm, KPMG France. He won the $10,000USD First Prize, outperforming 2,000+ professionals and data science students from 90 countries.
The 12 World Finalists underwent official testing for 4 hours (240 minutes) on a confidential Sentiment Analysis and Social Media Analysis Case Study provided by Cisco, a major sponsor of TEXATA 2014. Official testing was managed by Parminder Kocher, Global Head of Innovation Engineering at Cisco, with the support of Cisco Americas staff.
Under extreme time pressure, Finalists were then required to pitch their business solutions to the TEXATA Judging Panel in only five minutes. The judges were effusive in their praise for Sbizzera’s presentation pitch, wowed by his technical knowledge of data analytics, an eye for innovation as well as an acute understanding of business needs. “I’m just speechless. This is fantastic and a real celebration of Big Data Analytics and Business. This is a unique competition and it was great to meet and network with so many exceptional colleagues from around the world,” said Sbizzera at the Awards Ceremony held at the University of Texas at Austin.
Second Prize of $5,000USD was won by Kristin Nguyen (HP Labs Singapore), who impressed the judges with her technical excellence. Estonian PhD student Konstantin Tretyakov picked up a cool double, winning 3rd Prize and $3,000USD for his efforts, while also claiming the Top Student Award. World Champion Sbizzera and fellow KPMG employee Kevin Kuo claimed the honours in the TEXATA Innovation Award, a nod to the strength of the firm’s global Data and Analytics divisions.
Stéphane joins the elite league of Professional Services World Champions – including: 26yo Hilary Smart (United Kingdom, Operis, Financial Modeling World Champion 2013), 25yo Alex Gordon (PwC New Zealand, Financial Modeling World Champion 2012) and 35yo Martin Naude (Encentivize, South Africa, Loyalty Rewards and Gamification World Champion 2014). Stéphane will also be returning to Austin for TEXATA 2015 to defend his world title.
